February 2026 — WOM announces a new milestone in the deployment of its network with an antenna located in Punta Dungeness, in the commune of San Gregorio, one of the southernmost points of Chile’s continental territory, next to the emblematic lighthouse that marks the eastern entrance to the Strait of Magellan.
This deployment is part of the company’s commitment under the 5G Project, which includes coverage of 366 Mandatory Localities, with the aim of ensuring connectivity in rural, isolated, and strategic areas of the country.
The connectivity provided by the antenna significantly improves the coverage and quality of mobile services in an area of high geographic, historical, and heritage value, strengthening internet access for communities, schools, productive activities, emergency services, and operations in one of the key locations in southern Chile.
“Installing our infrastructure in Punta Dungeness is a concrete sign of our purpose to connect all people, even in places where geography poses the greatest challenges. This project demonstrates that connectivity is a key factor for territorial integration and the country’s development,” said María Paz Cerda, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at WOM.
Punta Dungeness joins other emblematic milestones in WOM’s deployment in extreme areas of the country, consolidating a network that now exceeds 6,300 proprietary antennas and positions the company as one of the operators with the broadest territorial coverage nationwide.
About the famous Punta Dungeness Lighthouse
Located at the eastern mouth of the Strait of Magellan, Punta Dungeness has historically been a strategic point for international navigation, marking access to one of the most important maritime routes in the Southern Hemisphere prior to the opening of the Panama Canal.
The Punta Dungeness Lighthouse, inaugurated in the late 19th century, continues to play a key role in maritime safety, guiding vessel traffic in an area characterized by extreme weather conditions, strong winds, and complex currents. Beyond its operational function, the lighthouse has become a heritage and sovereignty symbol, representing the permanent presence of the Chilean State at one of the farthest reaches of the country’s continental territory.
