According to the latest data traffic report from WOM, the dating app Bumble saw a 26% increase in mobile data usage by users, while Tinder remains the most popular choice. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Region and the Valparaíso Region have become the areas in the country where residents dedicate the most mobile data to these platforms.
Santiago, February 2024 – Dating apps have become a valuable tool among Chileans for connecting with others. These apps have experienced significant growth worldwide, and it is expected that by 2027, the number of dating app users globally will reach 440 million, according to Statista, indicating a continuing trend of growth in the use of these platforms.
This was also confirmed by the latest WOM data traffic report, published ahead of Valentine’s Day, comparing 2023 and 2024, focusing on usage between January-March and November-December of each year. When analysing usage, Tinder is the most widely used app, with over 81,000 GB consumed in both 2023 and 2024. However, the most noticeable increase was recorded by Bumble, where users increased their mobile data usage by 26%. Next in line is Grindr, with a 5% increase.
“The figures show that interest in these platforms continues to grow, especially in the Chilean market. This phenomenon is driven by the adoption of new technologies, the demand for new forms of interpersonal connection, and the convenience these apps offer for building relationships. Based on the usage of our network, we observe a volatile scenario where some apps are consolidating, while others are increasing mobile data usage by almost a third. This explains the competitiveness that exists and the variety available to users”, explained Kamila Dubó, Director of Markets at WOM.
The First Month of 2025 Brought Strong Competition
WOM analysed various variables in January 2025. Initially, they focused on the first day of the year, where apps saw their peak usage after midday, except for Happn, which was most used at 10 a.m. However, January had another particularity: each app saw its peak usage on different days.
In this line, Tinder remains the most used dating app in January, with over 25,500 GB of data consumed by its users. It is followed by Badoo and Grindr, with 7,422 GB and 7,416 GB used, respectively, completing the top three platforms with the highest traffic. Meanwhile, Bumble came in fourth place with over 2,000 GB consumed, while Happn was relegated to fifth place with a significantly lower consumption of just 52 GB.
What Happened in the Regions?
On a national level, both in 2023 and 2024, and as expected, the Metropolitan Region remains the area in the country with the highest usage of dating platforms in terms of mobile data. The same goes for Valparaíso, which maintained the same position during both periods. The updates appear in third place, with Biobío climbing six positions, pushing Los Lagos down to fourth place.
