Valparaíso Region, June 17, 2025.- As part of WOM’s “Escuelas Conectadas” (Connected Schools) program, an initiative developed to provide free internet to educational establishments, the operator has managed to connect 20 schools in the Valparaíso Region, mainly located in rural areas, impacting more than 2,600 students and more than 300 teachers.
As part of its ongoing commitment to reducing the digital divide, the company visited the Escuela Básica Puente Colmo school in the municipality of Concón, where it delivered equipment and connectivity to distribute and provide free internet access to various schools and kindergartens in the municipality.
“At WOM, we remain firmly committed to connecting those who do not have access, because we understand that connectivity is a driver of transformation that transcends the digital realm; it is a service that changes the lives of individuals and communities. That is why this program not only seeks to provide internet access, but also aims to open doors to new opportunities and contribute to leveling the playing field in digital education for students, teachers, and the entire community,” said Valeria Andia, Manager of Sustainability and Public Affairs at WOM.
“Thanks to this benefit for the school, our teachers will have greater access to online educational tools and teaching materials for their classes, enabling them to provide our students with the tools they need for this digitalized world. This way, they can be better prepared to face the challenges of the future,” said Paola Pérez, principal of the Puente Colmo Elementary School in Concón.
It should be noted that since WOM launched its “Escuelas Conectadas” (Connected Schools) program in 2023, the company has managed to connect 203 schools located mainly in rural areas, impacting more than 52,000 students and more than 4,000 teachers throughout the country. All of this has been made possible thanks to the rollout of the 5G project.
As part of this same program, with the aim of supporting the technological transformation of schools and promoting new digital knowledge among students, teachers from various connected educational establishments accessed a comprehensive training plan, delivered by NivelA, on the use of practical tools to complement teaching.
This program is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 4: “Quality Education,” which seeks to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
