● This is confirmed by WOM in its first report, “WOM Dataholic,” an analysis aimed at sharing information and insights about customer consumption habits and data traffic.
● “WOM Dataholic” also revealed that March 2024 was the month with the highest number of uninterrupted mobile calls, equivalent to more than 20 centuries of conversation.
Santiago, March 2025 – The demand for connectivity has seen a significant year-on-year increase, which is linked to the rise in mobile phones in the country, a figure that even surpasses the population volume. This was confirmed by WOM in its first edition of the “WOM Dataholics” report, an analysis designed to offer insights for data enthusiasts, particularly focusing on customer consumption habits and data traffic.
Among the key findings, the analysis revealed that in 2024, our customers set a historic record by exceeding 12.7 billion minutes of mobile calls, which is equivalent to making a single call for more than 240 centuries without interruption. Additionally, March 2024 was the month in which the most mobile phone calls were made through the network, with more than 20 centuries of conversation.
“The data confirms that user behaviour is dynamic and constantly growing. However, it also shows a clear trend, highlighting that our customers naturally and complementarily combine the use of calls with data traffic. In this sense, this first report from ‘WOM Dataholics’ reveals how we communicate and connect on a daily basis, allowing us to analyse consumption patterns and continuously improve our service experience,” said Kamila Dubó, Market Director at WOM.
On a regional level, “WOM Dataholic” reveals the behaviour of consumers in different areas of the country, with the Metropolitan Region leading with 39% of the minutes spoken, followed by Valparaíso (10%) and Biobío (8%). The measurement is completed by La Araucanía and the Maule Region, with more than 6% each.
And… what about uploads and downloads of content?
According to the report, Thursday, 22nd February 2024, stands out as the day with the most downloads of information in a single day, with more than 5 billion GB. If we put this into perspective, this would be enough to store over 1 trillion songs or photos, reflecting the immense demand for storage and bandwidth that is required today.
Meanwhile, considering both uploads and downloads, the same 22nd February saw the peak of data traffic. Factors that could have contributed to the surge in consumption include an unusual weather front that affected central Chile on that day, as well as the well-known controversy surrounding Mexican singer Peso Pluma and his potential participation in the Viña del Mar Festival. On that day, a match between Colo Colo and the Argentine team Godoy Cruz also took place in the previous Copa Libertadores.
