WHAT IS FON
The FON project consists of a data transmission highway, which serves as a platform for new and better services at the end-user level. Thanks to this wholesale, open and shared transport network, any company can use its infrastructure to deliver telecommunications services to users.
Subtel, through the Telecommunications Development Council (CDT), awarded WOM five of the six macrozones of this project.
FON BENEFITS
Democratize access to new local competitors for the provision of regional or communal services by promoting competition.
Deliver a structure (backbone) to develop the digital highway that Chile needs for connectivity.
Chilean optical fiber usually passes through the same routes, which affects its availability in the event of route cutting events, and 5G technology requires networks with high performance and availability. The FON layout will avoid using the same routes and thus offer an alternative availability.
