3 March 2026. – WOM maintains its firm commitment to the 5G Project, reaching a new milestone in the deployment of its network in remote and extreme locations across the country. In this context, the operator, which has more than 6,300 of its own antennas, now provides coverage in Caleta Los Pozos, a coastal locality located in the commune of Huasco, in the Atacama Region.
The construction of WOM’s digital infrastructure in this area, which forms part of the coastal circuit of the Desert Route, strengthens coverage and the quality of mobile services in a zone of high value due to its activities related to fishing, gathering and its tourist appeal. In addition, and in line with the company’s commitment to reducing the digital divide, internet access in this locality directly benefits communities, their schools, the development of productive activities, among other services.
“Installing our infrastructure in Caleta Los Pozos is a concrete sign of our purpose to connect everyone in the country. We are proud to have a high-performing team who have been able to bring our network to areas where geography has posed major challenges,” highlights María Paz Cerda, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at WOM.
The executive adds that “This project not only expands access to digital services, but also promotes territorial integration and contributes to the sustainable development of the country.”
The Caleta Los Pozos antenna joins others located in iconic places that form part of the 366 Mandatory Localities of the 5G Project, among which stand out: Rapa Nui, Punta Dungeness, the Chilean Antarctic Territory and Tierra del Fuego.
WOM’s arrival in this sector of Huasco confirms the company’s purpose of providing connectivity to the more than 20 million inhabitants of Chile and, in doing so, reducing the digital divide. With more than 6,300 of its own antennas, WOM reaches further to be closer, positioning itself as one of the operators with the widest national coverage.
What is a “Mandatory Locality”?
A Mandatory Locality is a specific area of the country that the State defines as a priority for receiving mobile connectivity, and whose coverage is a legal obligation for the companies that win a telecommunications tender.
These areas correspond to sectors through which the Chilean State ensures that access to connectivity is not concentrated solely in large cities, but also reaches rural, isolated or less connected localities.
The 366 localities awarded to WOM are part of the social commitment of the 5G Project, with the objective of reducing the digital divide and ensuring that connectivity directly contributes to education, healthcare, security and local economic development.
Digital connectivity in Caleta Los Pozos
The deployment of these localities forms part of an expansion strategy aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure nationwide, expanding effective coverage and ensuring quality standards in line with the growing demands of individuals, businesses and institutions.
A key example is Caleta Los Pozos, located south of Huasco. This strategic point for artisanal fishing and ecotourism in the Atacama Region requires robust connectivity. Strengthening the network will enable the fishing community to access new channels of commercialisation and essential services, driving socio-economic development and significantly reducing the digital divide.
