  • The operator calls on all mayors of rural communities to join this valuable initiative.

March, 2024 – WOM and DuocUC, with the support of the Association of Rural Municipalities (AMUR) officially launched the “WOM-Duoc UC Scholarship”, an initiative that aims to provide free connectivity to 100 students accessing higher education university or professional technical studies. This benefit will be granted on an annual basis and can be renewed by each student for up to five years.

Since its inception, WOM has maintained its commitment to bridge the digital divide, promoting various programs that provide free internet access in areas where there was little or no connectivity.

“We are proud to formalize the launch of this scholarship with Duoc UC and the support of the Association of Rural Municipalities (AMUR). We want to contribute to catalyze, with alliances like these, a call for more actors to create opportunities that positively change people’s lives. Telecommunications save lives, as the Undersecretary of Telecommunications points out, and put at the service of education, they amplify its reach and impact. In this way, we put our 5G network, which is a source of pride for the country, at the service of access to inclusive educational knowledge. We call on all mayors of rural communities to join this valuable initiative, and on more companies in the telecommunications industry to join”, said Eduardo Jara, Vice President of Corporate Affairs of WOM Chile.

Students who receive the WOM-Duoc UC Scholarship will also be able to access a digital tools course taught by teachers from the School of Information Technology and Telecommunications of the university. This program will allow them to accredit that they have acquired skills in Microsoft Office to prepare documents, create spreadsheets and design presentations with slides, thus enhancing the student’s skills, both in training and in the workplace.
