  • The initiative, promoted by WOM, expects to benefit 100 students of higher education and professional technical education, with a free annual connectivity plan.
  • In addition, they will receive a tablet and will be able to access an online digital skills course taught by Duoc UC.

April 24, 2025.- WOM and DuocUC, with the support of Technovation Girls, launched for the second consecutive year the “WOM-Duoc UC Scholarship”, an initiative that aims to provide free connectivity to 100 students from different parts of the country, who access higher education university or professional technical studies. This benefit will be granted on an annual basis and may be renewed by each student for up to five years.

This initiative is part of WOM Chile’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and is in addition to the different social programs focused on education, as well as the promotion and empowerment of female talent in STEM careers, where through free internet access, equipment and training, the operator hopes to open greater opportunities through technology.

“At WOM we are driven to promote programs with impact and with a gender perspective, such as this scholarship that offers new possibilities to students who participated in the workshops given by Fundación Technovation Girls, and thus enhance their professional training. Connectivity is synonymous with social transformation and with this initiative we are not only democratizing our service even more, but we are also contributing with more access to educational knowledge and providing more opportunities to change not only the future of the students, but also that of an entire society,” said Valeria Andía, Sustainability and Public Affairs Manager of WOM Chile.

Meanwhile, the Director of the School of Informatics and Telecommunications of Duoc UC, Alejandra Acuña, expressed her satisfaction at being part of this collaborative alliance that reinforces the role of women in ICTs: “As the School of Informatics and Telecommunications of Duoc UC, we firmly believe that access to technology must go hand in hand with training that enables its conscious, strategic and transformative use. This initiative represents much more than a delivery of devices: it is a gateway to the development of digital skills, the discovery of technological vocations and personal empowerment. We want these young women not only to use technology, but also to discover a real platform for learning and growth, to adapt it to their needs and to dare to imagine new solutions from their perspective, their territories and their experiences”.

TECH GIRLS

In 2025, the WOM-Duoc UC Scholarship underwent an innovation, establishing as beneficiaries a hundred students who have gone through the plans promoted by Technovation Girls Chile, whose focus is precisely the empowerment of girls in technology. In this context, “as a foundation we are very happy to have the WOM-Duoc UC Scholarship for the students of our program, who completed the program in the regions of Arica, Antofagasta, Rancagua, Valparaíso, La Serena, Biobío, Ñuble, Maule and Santiago. We believe that these instances open great opportunities for girls and young women in our country to access technologies,” said Constanza Diaz, Executive Director of Technovation Girls Chile.

Students who receive the WOM-Duoc UC Scholarship will also have access to a course on digital tools taught by teachers from the School of Informatics and Telecommunications of that university. This program will allow them to acquire skills in Microsoft Office, to prepare documents, create spreadsheets and design presentations with slides, thus enhancing the skills of the student, both in training and work, as well as approaching updated content, such as the use of AI in their careers.
