WOM consolidates its position as the second largest operator in the mobile market and already has more than 8 million customers

Santiago. August 25, 2023 – Eight years after its arrival in the country, WOM’s proposal continues to conquer its current and new customers in the Chilean market. This is shown in its latest Financial Report, corresponding to the second quarter of 2023, where the company recorded a 9.2% growth in its customer base compared to the same period of 2022, exceeding 8 million customers for its different services. 

According to the report, the largest increase in mobile customers was recorded in the prepaid segment, with 10.8%, while postpaid users rose by 6.6% during the second quarter of this year compared to the same period of the previous year. The fiber optic service also saw a substantial jump in the second quarter, with 40.7% of new subscribers.

The growth experienced by the company in terms of customers was reflected in financial terms, with an 8.8% increase in revenues during the second quarter of this year, reaching Ch$174,472 million (equivalent to US$218 million). This boosted the company’s profitability, posting an adjusted EBITDA of Ch$60,916 million (equivalent to US$76 million), with a growth of 16.4% compared to the second quarter of 2022.

It is worth noting that these figures are in line with what was released by Subtel in its latest report, corresponding to the first quarter of 2023, where it revealed that WOM consolidated its position as the second operator with more mobile internet connections (3G/4G/5G), which translates into a 25.6% market share.

The company, which was awarded two of the most emblematic digital infrastructure projects for the country, already has more than 80% of its network built, providing access to more than 18 million people living in 320 municipalities from Arica to Punta Arenas. The operator also continues to make steady progress in the National Optical Fiber (FON) project, the country’s main digital highway, which has already exceeded 7,000 kilometers built, equivalent to 99% of the total fiber laying. The emblematic project is distributed in the five macro-zones awarded to the operator, from the region of Arica and Parinacota to the Biobío region, benefiting more than 2.5 million people in 143 municipalities. 

The company also published the second version of its Sustainability Report, which reports on the progress made by the company during 2022 in social, environmental and governance matters; key pillars for developing a value proposition that, in addition to improving the quality of life of people through connectivity, addresses the challenges faced by society.

Consolidation of a proposal widely valued by customers

Since its arrival in the country, WOM has led the number portability ranking for seven years and has consolidated its position in first place in awards for customer experience and satisfaction, among which the following stand out: Procalidad, ALCO, BCX and PXI. It is worth mentioning that its network was recently awarded by Ookla as the fastest and best evaluated mobile network in Chile, according to data from the Speedtest platform for the first half of 2023.
