In the environmental area, the recovery of 14 tons of electronic devices, the first measurement of the carbon footprint and the consumption of 100% renewable energy in its datacenter stand out.
Santiago, September 23, 2024. The telecommunications company voluntarily published the third version of its Sustainability Report, which reports on the progress achieved during the 2023 management, emphasizing the impact of its operation in environmental, social and governance (ESG) areas.
In its 2023 Report, WOM reaffirms its commitment to sustainability through various initiatives to reduce its environmental footprint, improve gender equity in the workplace and ensure data protection throughout its value chain.
“In our nine years of existence, we have demonstrated that sustainability is a fundamental pillar in our operations. It has been and is a transversal commitment throughout the organization, where each employee contributes to achieve the defined objectives, for the benefit of our customers and key stakeholders. In this line, this report is an exercise in transparency that accounts for every action we took in 2023 with respect to our employees and other stakeholders in environmental, social and governance matters,” said Eduardo Jara, VP of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at WOM.
2023 Milestones: Environmental, Social and Governance
In the environmental area, during the year, WOM verified its carbon footprint for the first time and managed to reduce energy consumption in its facilities, thanks to the installation of Power Energy Star, a system that uses artificial intelligence to optimize energy use. It also recovered 33% of its waste and reconditioned more than 80% of its electronic equipment, marking a milestone in responsible waste management.
In the social area, the company was recognized for the second consecutive year as the best place to work for the LGBTIQ+ community by Pride Connection Chile, in alliance with the Human Rights Campaign’s Global Workplace Equality Program and Fundación Iguales. It also launched the 360° Plan with different partners to integrate all WOMers, including those who work indirectly with the company, standardizing benefits and agreements, and reaffirming its commitment to diversity and inclusion.
In the area of governance, WOM continues to promote ethical practices and transparency in its operations, as well as reinforced the practices that strengthen its processes in terms of cybersecurity.
Meanwhile, as other milestones of the 2023 fiscal year, the company has invited other telecommunications companies to work collaboratively on an agreement of good practices in the telesales service, seeking self-regulation that benefits consumers. In addition, the company obtained first place in the PXI – Praxis Human Xperience 2023 ranking, in the “Mobile Telephony” category.
