This initiative aims to connect schools in remote areas free of charge, which today have coverage thanks to the deployment that the company is carrying out throughout Chile and which includes 366 rural locations.

Santiago, May 2023 – As part of WOM’s Social Connectivity Plan, the company launched a program to connect 100 rural schools in order to provide free internet and impact education through technology.

This initiative is part of the operator’s social commitment and is made possible thanks to the deployment of infrastructure to improve and strengthen connectivity in 366 isolated locations in the country.

“Our commitment to level the digital playing field and democratize access to connectivity remains firm. The implementation of this plan goes beyond technology; it is about transforming the lives of hundreds of children who, due to their geographic location, have little or no access to the Internet. This program is not only about providing them with a browsing space, it is a contribution to level education for students, teachers and the whole community”, said Valeria Andía, WOM’s Sustainability Manager.

María Elena Martínez Rubilar, Director of the Parlamento de Quillem School, one of the first to be part of the program, emphasized that “without connectivity there are many important activities that cannot be carried out in schools. Being part of this initiative opens doors for us to improve the work of teachers and students in terms of access to information”.

During the coming weeks WOM will continue to visit schools throughout Chile with the purpose of leveling the digital playing field in the country, which will be added to those already connected in the communes of Marchigüe, Nacimiento, Mulchén, Renaico and Perquenco.
