- Likewise, the deployment of the 5G WOM project has already reached 80% progress in its construction, reaching more than 320 communities throughout the country.
Santiago, July 5, 2023 – Ookla, an international Internet measurement and diagnostics company, recognized WOM as the operator that offers the “Fastest Mobile Network” in Chile according to data from the Speedtest platform for the first half of 2023. The company was also awarded by Ookla as the “Best evaluated mobile network” in the country.
Doug Suttles, CEO of Ookla, highlighted that “There are many factors that go into choosing a mobile network operator or Internet service provider, with speed and network quality being the most important. Fast and stable network speeds are essential for almost all mobile services. High customer satisfaction shows that service fast enough to meet customer needs at any time is an essential component for consumers to evaluate their mobile operators.”
The Ookla executive further added that, “Every day, millions of people use Speedtest not only to understand the performance, quality and availability of their networks, but also to gauge their satisfaction and determine which network providers will meet their needs. We are honored to be part of the process of helping consumers find the service that works best for them.”
WOM currently has a significant progress of the 5G project with 4,085 antennas built out of a total of 5,034, a figure equivalent to 81% of the deployment and which also doubles the total number of antennas committed by the other operators as a whole. It is worth highlighting the operator’s significant investment in the project, with US$350 million earmarked for its construction and US$150 million for obtaining the spectrum in the last bidding process carried out by Subtel in 2021.

WOM’s network coverage is already present in more than 320 municipalities throughout Chile, equivalent to 92% of the total number of municipalities, allowing more than 18 million people to access the network. This last figure was calculated based on data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) as of March 2023 and corresponds to the population living in the sectors where the company has antennas that provide 5G coverage.
In its 8 years in the market, WOM not only becomes the fastest and best evaluated network in Chile, but also celebrates having reached 8 million customers and having consolidated as the 2nd operator in mobile internet connections (3G/4G/5G), with 25.9% market share according to the last Subtel report.
